Thinking Clearly About Diesel Fuel-System Symptoms

Distinguish symptoms from confirmed causes when diagnosing a pump, injector or diesel-engine performance problem.

Hard starting, loss of power, smoke, rough operation or an error code are useful clues, not complete diagnoses. More than one mechanical, electrical or fuel-delivery fault can cause similar behavior.

DOCUMENT CONDITIONS

When did the symptom begin? Is the engine hot or cold? Does it occur at idle, under load or intermittently? What parts were recently changed? Which tests were performed, by whom, and what were the recorded findings?

AVOID UNNECESSARY REPLACEMENTS

Replacing a component based only on one symptom can fail to solve an underlying supply, control or contamination problem. Professional testing may reduce uncertainty, but even an individual component test must be interpreted within the overall engine system.

High-pressure diesel injection systems can cause severe injury. This page does not provide do-it-yourself high-pressure testing instructions. Use qualified technicians and equipment.

LET’S DISCUSS YOUR REQUIREMENTS.

Service and component eligibility, pricing, lead time, warranty and available delivery methods are confirmed by DCT after reviewing the specifics of your request.
