Diesel Engine DTC Guides

Engine-specific DTC explanations for Duramax, Cummins and Ford Power Stroke.

A code is a clue.
A confirmed repair begins with the right evidence.

The same code can mean different diagnostic work on different diesel engines. A Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke may each report a fuel-pressure problem, but the installed pump, injector technology, sensors, control logic and even relevant model-year changes can differ. Begin with the engine identification—not a replacement part suggested by a generic scan-tool description.

Pick the engine family before the component

Duramax: compare the applicable engine generation and whether it uses a CP3, CP4 or DENSO architecture before evaluating a pressure fault. Explore Duramax diagnostic codes and identify Duramax pump families.

Cummins: a 5.9L or 6.7L badge does not identify every pump generation. Confirm the model year and full component number when investigating fueling, pressure-control or injector concerns. Explore Cummins code guidance and compare 6.7L injection equipment.

Power Stroke: HEUI high-pressure oil control on older platforms is a different diagnostic problem from fuel-rail pressure generation on later common-rail designs. Explore Power Stroke code guidance and see the 6.7L high-pressure pump discussion.

Which evidence helps most?

Write down the exact DTC and its freeze-frame or operating context, the engine year and family, whether the issue is hot or cold, and any commanded-versus-measured values obtained through approved diagnostic procedures. These details help a qualified technician separate a circuit fault, pressure-control problem and mechanical concern. A code identifies a monitored condition; it does not prove a pump or injector is defective.

Search all 307 indexed DTCs, start from the symptoms or ask DCT about an identified component.

Keep exploring the right evidence

Codes guide a diagnosis but do not identify a failed pump or injector by themselves. Review nearby systems, compare the exact engine application, and seek qualified testing before deciding on a repair.
