Diesel injectors are precision fuel-metering devices driven by carefully controlled electronics. When the monitored injector circuit does not behave as expected, the engine may store a circuit low or circuit high code. These are not descriptions of low or high injection fuel pressure. They describe an electrical state or driver-monitoring result associated with a particular cylinder on the vehicle.

A six-cylinder engine only uses its applicable cylinders, and the location of each cylinder must come from its own numbering diagram. The word “low” does not universally tell you the circuit is grounded, nor does “high” always mean an open wire; the exact driver design and monitoring strategy dictate what those states represent.
Why the harness matters
An injector may fail electrically, but its connector, terminal tension, harness routing, supply group, ground path and driver circuitry can create the same cylinder symptom. If codes occur on several cylinders at once, determine whether those cylinders share a supply or driver bank. A cluster of faults can be more revealing than one isolated injector code because it may point toward a shared electrical problem.
What a good diagnosis looks like
The technician identifies the injector design, current OEM electrical specifications, and appropriate test equipment. Approved circuit testing establishes whether the fault is within a component or in the wiring/driver path. Some diesel injectors use high-energy drive strategies and should not be energized with an improvised power source. If the injector is actually defective, professional electrical and mechanical evaluation can determine appropriate repair options.

Frequently asked questions
Is P0261 a fuel pressure code?
No. It identifies a cylinder-specific injector circuit low fault, not the rail pressure reading.
Can a bad harness mimic a bad injector?
Yes. An interrupted or abnormal driver path can prevent an otherwise functioning injector from operating normally.
Keep exploring the right evidence
Codes guide a diagnosis but do not identify a failed pump or injector by themselves. Review nearby systems, compare the exact engine application, and seek qualified testing before deciding on a repair.
