A sensor labeled “B” is easy to misidentify. On one engine, it may monitor part of the low-pressure fuel supply; on another, its purpose and location may be different. P018A–P018E describe fuel pressure sensor B circuit malfunction, range/performance, low input, high input and intermittent behavior where implemented. The most useful first step is to identify what B means in the specific vehicle, not to search for a universal picture of a sensor.
The fault categories tell different stories
P018A is a general circuit fault. P018B concerns range/performance or plausibility, which may occur even when the signal stays within expected electrical bounds. P018C and P018D concern low and high circuit inputs, while P018E points to an intermittent or erratic signal. A low circuit input should not be described as low physical fuel pressure without knowing the sensing and diagnostic strategy. The same applies in reverse to a high circuit input.
What other codes may appear?
If sensor B monitors supply pressure on the application, a problem could overlap with P008A or P008B. If the controller uses its reading to command a pump, erroneous feedback may create symptoms that resemble a hydraulic supply failure. Companion circuit or controller faults can help isolate what the engine noticed first. The technician should preserve freeze-frame and relevant time-sequence information before clearing the system.
How to identify the real problem
Start with the exact sensor location and wiring diagram. Confirm reference voltage, ground, signal behavior and connector condition using approved service steps, and establish whether a valid pressure measurement corroborates the signal. Only then choose between sensor repair, wiring correction, supply-system work or another cause. Replacing a high-pressure injection pump because a sensor B voltage is abnormal is not a reasoned conclusion.

Frequently asked questions
Does “sensor B” always mean the second rail sensor?
No. The naming is defined by the application, and the sensor may serve a different part of the fuel system.
Is P018E a mechanical pressure fault?
It is an intermittent or erratic sensor-circuit designation. Mechanical pressure behavior and electrical signal reliability must be distinguished.
Keep exploring the right evidence
Codes guide a diagnosis but do not identify a failed pump or injector by themselves. Review nearby systems, compare the exact engine application, and seek qualified testing before deciding on a repair.
