“Low pressure” describes a part of the diesel fuel system, not an instruction that its pressure should always be low. P008B reports excessive pressure in the monitored low-pressure supply circuit on equipped engines. It is the counterpart to P008A in directional terms, but its causes and consequences are not simply the same fault in reverse.
What can raise supply pressure?
Depending on the system, pressure regulation, return restriction, a malfunctioning supply-pump controller, incorrect plumbing, or bad sensor feedback may be relevant. A high reading from a pressure sensor does not prove the physical pressure is high until the signal is verified. Likewise, an aftermarket pump or modification that operates outside the intended supply specification may change behavior and should be disclosed during diagnosis.
Why the engine architecture matters
Some systems use a mechanical transfer stage, others an electric lift pump and regulator, and others rely on a different arrangement of feed and return paths. The sensor identified by the monitor may not be installed where a generic article assumes. P008B should therefore lead to a diagram and application-specific pressure test rather than a universal recommendation to replace a regulator near the filter.
The diagnostic sequence
A technician confirms the code and operating condition, checks companion pump-control and sensor faults, then verifies actual supply pressure by approved means. The return and regulation paths are inspected as service information indicates, and electrical commands are assessed where the pump is electronically controlled. The final repair may be a restriction correction, pressure-control repair, wiring or sensor correction, or another application-specific solution.
See P008A and the low-pressure supply hub for comparison. If abnormal supply pressure has damaged or affected an injection component, contact our diesel injection team with the test history.
Frequently asked questions
Does P008B mean the high-pressure pump makes too much pressure?
No. P008B concerns the monitored low-pressure supply side, which is distinct from high-pressure rail overpressure code P0088.
Can a bad pressure sensor create P008B?
Potentially. Sensor plausibility and the exact pressure measurement method are important parts of diagnosis.
Keep exploring the right evidence
Codes guide a diagnosis but do not identify a failed pump or injector by themselves. Review nearby systems, compare the exact engine application, and seek qualified testing before deciding on a repair.
