DIESEL CONTROL TECHNICIANS / PUMP FAMILY IDENTIFICATION

Delphi Diesel Injection Pump Repair & Identification

Identify Delphi diesel injection pump families, common names and numbers. Ask about nationwide mail-in pump testing, evaluation and repair options.

Delphi fuel-injection names span several decades, with DP-series distributor pumps and other precision fuel-system designs. Some older assemblies also appear under Lucas-related branding. The correct family, full assembly number and application help determine the right test approach.

Separating Delphi rotary and unit-pump designs

Even among the DP100, DP200, DP210, DP203 and DP310 designations, the pump number and application are essential. A repair conversation begins with the installed configuration, symptoms and service requirements, not a broad manufacturer label.

Delphi history, identification and practical service questions

Rotary Pumps

The rotary pump is this family’s signature move: one spinning rotor meters fuel and deals it out to every cylinder in turn, like a card dealer working the whole table from one deck.

CAV DPA (Lucas CAV DPA, Delphi DPA)

The DPA is the classic mechanical rotary pump, and the one most Massey Ferguson and Ford tractor owners mean when they say "the Lucas pump." It fits Massey Ferguson 135, 150 and 230-250 tractors with Perkins engines, Ford 3500-4610 and late 5000 tractors, and Perkins 1004 engines. Numbers start 3230F, 3233F, 3340F or 3342F. It shares rotary ideas with American pumps of its era, so at a glance it is easy to mistake for a Roosa Master; the tag settles it. Read the full CAV DPA repair page or our Massey Ferguson and Ford tractor guide.

Delphi DP210

A Delphi rotary pump for the Perkins 1104C-44T and 1104C-44TA, the Cat 3054C and the ASV RC100 track loader. Owners search "Perkins 1104C pump" or "Cat 3054C pump" far more than the Delphi name. Delphi numbers begin 9320A; Perkins numbers begin 2644H. The letter after 1104 matters: a C engine points to the DP210, a D engine to the DP310. Read the full Delphi DP210 repair page or see Perkins and Cat engines.

Delphi DP310

The DP210’s younger sibling rides on the Perkins 1104D-44T and 1104D-44TA, the Cat C4.4 and the JCB 444. Most owners never see the Delphi number (9520A), because the Perkins (2644C), Cat (316-6964) or JCB (320/06) number is the one on the invoice. Send us any of them and we will sort out the rest. Read the full Delphi DP310 repair page.

Delphi DP200 (Lucas DP200)

A rotary pump for the Perkins 1004-40T and 6.60 engines and JCB 214, 3CX and 4CX backhoes. When a JCB starts hard or smokes, the pump is a suspect, but so are the injectors; our hard start and smoke guide helps you tell which. Numbers start 8920A, 8923A or 8925A. Read the full Delphi DP200 repair page.

Lucas CAV DPS

Launched in 1980, the DPS is a Lucas CAV rotary pump whose first customer was the VW Golf diesel, and it went on Fiat engines too. Also searched as Delphi DPS. US applications are scarce. If one has found its way to you, start with the complete part number in our repair inquiry.

CAV DP15

The DP15, also called the Mk 15, is an older CAV rotary pump built for engines up to eight cylinders. It is best known on Bedford 500 trucks and coaches in the UK. It is a rare find in the US, and rare pumps are half the fun of this job. send the complete identifier through our repair inquiry before shipping.

Delphi DP100 and DP203

DP100 and DP203 appear as distinct designations in the Delphi pump-family reference. Because a short family label does not establish the engine configuration, provide the complete Delphi number and the engine information before discussing an equivalent part, service procedure or calibration. A DP203 number should not be treated as a DP200 typographical error.

Common-Rail and Unit Pumps

Same family name, very different animal. These are high-pressure pumps for modern heavy trucks, and they reward clean fuel and punish everything else.

Shop Talk: A common-rail pump keeps a shared fuel pipe, the rail, charged at very high pressure, and the engine computer fires each injector on cue. A unit pump is a compact pump driven off the engine’s camshaft. On the PACCAR MX-13, Delphi unit pumps are what keep the rail charged.

Delphi F2P (PACCAR MX-13 Unit Pump)

The F2P is Delphi’s cam-driven unit pump that charges the common rail on PACCAR MX-13 engines, and on the MX-11 too, in Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks. Nobody searches "F2P." They search "MX-13 unit pump" or "MX-13 fuel pump." Look for PACCAR 1934322, 2034927, 2102391 or 1861200, Delphi EX551001, or BEBU codes such as BEBU2C00000, BEBU2C00300, BEBU2C00500 and BEBU4B00200. Read the full MX-13 unit pump (F2P) repair page.

Before you pull a pump on a common-rail truck, scan the codes and check the fuel filters and supply pressure with a gauge on the low-pressure side. A starved pump and a worn pump can throw similar complaints. Leave the high-pressure lines alone with the engine running: common-rail fuel pressure can injure.

Discussing Delphi components by mail

If you have a Delphi, Lucas or related historical designation, photograph all markings. The number and series determine what can be evaluated.
